Phuket Vegetarian Festiva Expects 140,000 Visitors, 1.3 Billion Baht

PHUKET, Thailand – The nine-day Vegetarian Festival is forecast to pull in around 140,000 domestic travellers and pump more than 1.3 billion baht into the local economy, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Siriwan Siharat, director of the TAT’s Phuket office, described the event as one of the country’s biggest traditional celebrations, noting it has grown into a major draw, especially for foreign visitors. Domestic tourists are expected to lead the turnout over the nine days, driving about 1.3 billion baht in spending across the island.

The Phuket TAT office has also printed 1,800 festival guides detailing activities and the routes for the daily Chinese deity processions.
