The man was stopped at an agricultural market in Saraphi district, where officers seized the weapon for examination and took him to Saraphi Police Station for questioning.

Drivers in Chiang Mai city were left alarmed after reportedly seeing the pickup driver wind down his window and display a gun. One motorist said he was travelling normally outside Lanna Hospital towards the Poi Luang intersection when he tried to overtake the pickup, prompting the man to hold a firearm out of the window. The driver allegedly threatened every vehicle attempting to pass, with no prior confrontation, and footage of the incident was later shared online.

Pol Maj Gen Yutthana Kaenchan, commander of Chiang Mai Provincial Police, was told by Saraphi police that the driver had been detained at the market. Officers said he had allegedly shown the weapon while passing through the San Pa Tong police area, though patrols responding to the report could not find him. Hang Dong police then received a public report of a man displaying a gun beside the irrigation canal, but again the vehicle was gone.
