CHIANG MAI, Thailand – Authorities have shut off access to two waterfalls in Doi Suthep-Pui National Park after heavy rainfall swelled their waters, as the provincial governor ordered officials across Chiang Mai to stay alert for flash floods and other sudden natural hazards.

Governor Rattaphon Naradisorn issued the urgent instruction to district officials, directing particular attention to national park attractions near waterways, streams and waterfalls, along with roads running through vulnerable areas.

The park reported that accumulated rain had raised levels at Mok Fa and Huay Tueng Thao waterfalls, turning the water reddish-brown, prompting the suspension of tourist access until conditions normalise. Mae Sa Waterfall is also under watch amid the wet weather.

Visitors are advised to follow park officials’ instructions and stay out of restricted zones, with updates available via the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park Facebook page or by calling 063-632-0881 during office hours. Meanwhile, officials at Ob Khan National Park in Nam Phrae, Hang Dong district, are monitoring the Khan River after its level rose following rain in Samoeng district and nearby areas, saying the river has not yet reached a critical level but remains under close observation.
