Tragic Hit-and-Run in Khao Lak Claims Lives of Two German Visitors
BANGKOK, Thailand – Two German tourists died after a pickup truck ploughed into them on a pedestrian crossing in Khao Lak, Phang Nga, on the night of 2 October 2026, with police saying the driver fled without stopping and is now the subject of a manhunt.

Pol Lt Col Chokdee Saengmanee, an investigating inspector at Khao Lak Police Station, said officers were alerted at 9.45pm to the crash on Phetkasem Road’s Thai Mueang-bound side, outside the Orchid Khao Lak shop in Moo 7, Khuekkhak subdistrict, Takua Pa district. He attended with Pol Lt Col Supachai Phetsakun, the station’s deputy investigating superintendent, and found a 63-year-old German woman, Gabriela, injured at the crossing and being treated by emergency crews, while a 64-year-old German man, Wilbert, had already been rushed to Khao Lak Medical Centre.

Witnesses told police the Mazda BT-50, registered in Bangkok, struck the pair as they crossed before speeding off towards Thai Mueang without stopping. Wilbert was pronounced dead at 10.32pm despite resuscitation efforts, and police were informed at 11.04pm that Gabriela had also died. The two had been staying at a hotel in Takua Pa district from 30 September to 9 October.

Investigators documented the scene, drew up a site incident plan and conducted post-mortems with the duty doctor from Khao Lak Medical Centre, and are now interviewing witnesses and gathering more evidence. The case is being treated as reckless driving causing death, with police yet to identify the driver and still tracing both the suspect and the pickup truck.
