Thai PM Orders 76 Provinces To Prepare For Rain

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed governors across all 76 provinces to prepare for possible widespread thundershowers on 4-5 October, citing a Meteorological Department forecast and warning that conditions remain unpredictable even as floodwaters in hard-hit areas begin to ease.

In his capacity as interior minister, Anutin directed agencies to ready personnel, equipment, food and essential supplies, along with shelter and emergency plans, stressing that authorities must stay alert to flooding elsewhere even as the situation improves in areas already inundated.

The prime minister chaired a third straight day of flood-response talks at the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation’s National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command, with governors from all 76 provinces joining by video link. Also taking part were Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Paradorn Prissananantakul and Defence Minister Lt Gen Adul Boonthumjaroen.

Anutin called for a single set of data across all agencies when communicating with the public and assessing the crisis. “All agencies should use a single set of data in their communications to prevent public confusion and ensure that everyone assesses the situation on the same basis,” he said.

He noted the overall picture was improving, with agencies speeding up work in critical zones, widening assistance to affected communities and deploying teams on all fronts. He urged them to keep tracking progress, gather the latest information from the ground and continually review response plans, adding that requests for support and reports of local problems should shape decisions and sharpen relief efforts.
