BANGKOK, Thailand – A Nigerian social media influencer and associate of Afrobeats star Davido has died following a fatal medical complication arising from a cosmetic penile enlargement procedure performed in Bangkok. Igho Ubiribo, known as Tiny and also as Ego, passed away in Thailand in March after receiving an injection of 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine, an inquest at Inner West London Coroners’ Court was told last month.

According to testimony presented during the hearing, Ubiribo developed chest pain and collapsed twice while receiving a massage from his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, shortly after the procedure. An ambulance was called, and he was transported to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening condition in which a blood clot obstructs blood flow to the lungs. Medical staff recommended a CT scan, but Ubiribo lost consciousness before the examination could be carried out. Resuscitation efforts continued for approximately 100 minutes, but he was pronounced dead in the early hours of 6 March.

A postmortem examination conducted in the United Kingdom later found cellular material in his lungs consistent with the hyaluronic acid that had been administered during the procedure. The findings supported the conclusion that the injection had resulted in a pulmonary embolism. Coroner Jean Harkin recorded the death as being caused by a pulmonary embolism following the injection of hyaluronic acid into the penis, ruling that Ubiribo had died as the result of a cosmetic procedure abroad.

Ubiribo, who had amassed around 185,000 followers on Instagram, was buried in London in May. Davido was among those who attended the funeral, alongside other prominent figures from the entertainment and social media worlds. The case has renewed concerns over the potential risks associated with penile filler procedures, which have grown in popularity in recent years despite serious medical warnings. Professor Vaibhav Modgil, an NHS andrology specialist and consultant urological surgeon, has previously cautioned that such procedures can lead to serious and potentially devastating complications, including infection, tissue necrosis and embolic events.

The tragedy has prompted fresh calls for greater regulation and public awareness regarding the dangers of unregulated cosmetic treatments, particularly those performed abroad where medical oversight may vary significantly from standards in the United Kingdom and other Western nations.
