BANGKOK – Immigration and police officers raided Bangkok’s iconic Khao San and Rambuttri roads this week, arresting eight foreign nationals for illegally operating food stalls in the bustling tourist district.

The joint operation between Immigration Division 1 and Chanasongkram Police Station targeted unauthorized street vendors as part of a broader crackdown on illegal foreign labor in the capital. Authorities inspected businesses suspected of violating immigration and labor laws, including potential ties to human trafficking and labor exploitation.

Among those detained were seven Myanmar nationals, four of whom lacked proper passports and were charged with illegal entry and working without permits. The remaining three had initially been granted temporary stay under a cabinet resolution but failed to renew their work authorizations, resulting in overstaying charges.

Also arrested was “Mr. Muhammed”, a Turkish national operating a well-known Turkish ice cream stand, famous for its entertaining sales tactics. Despite drawing crowds, he was found to be working on a tourist visa and was subsequently charged with illegal employment.

French Man Arrested in Phuket for Working Illegally

All eight suspects were taken into custody and face legal proceedings. Immigration officials warned that regular inspections will continue across Bangkok to enforce labor and visa compliance, particularly in high-traffic tourist zones.
