THAI adjusts and reschedules flights between Bangkok-Chiang Mai during Loy Krathong festival

Thai Airways International has decided to cancel some flights and to adjust many other flight schedules to northern provinces during Loy Krathong festival between November 14-16 for fear of safety risk posed by sky lanterns or small hot-air balloons.

THAI’s president for safety affairs and aviation standard, Cpt Pratthana Pattanasiri, said Thursday that sky lanterns released by Loy Krathong celebrants might pose safety risk to flights and, hence, it was necessary to adjust flights and to cancel some flights during the period in order to maintain high safety standard.
