Rescue Underway After Man Buried in Sukhumvit Landslide

BANGKOK, Thailand – Emergency crews are battling to free a man trapped roughly three metres underground after a landslide in Soi Pridi Banomyong 14, off Sukhumvit 71, on Thursday evening.

The Rama 199 radio centre received the alert via the 199 hotline at 6.47pm on 1 October, with the collapse striking Phra Khanong Nuea in Watthana district.

Firefighters and rescue workers from Phra Khanong Fire Station reached the scene at 7.02pm and found the unidentified man pinned beneath debris.

Reports indicate Metropolitan Waterworks Authority construction had been underway at the site for about a month, with repeated flooding and drainage work, combined with heavy afternoon rain, flagged as possible triggers for the landslide.
