PATTAYA, Thailand – An Indian tourist was taken to hospital unconscious after an early-morning confrontation outside a seafood restaurant near Walking Street in Pattaya on Tuesday, with police reporting that the 48-year-old man was found lying unconscious in the roadway shortly after 4:20 a.m. after reportedly being heavily intoxicated and having vomited. Officers from Muang Pattaya Police Station and Pattaya Tourist Police attended the scene after reports of an assault, with rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya providing first aid before he was transferred to hospital.

A crowd of Thai and foreign tourists had gathered around the man, identified as Raval, when police arrived, with fellow Indian tourists attempting to revive him after he lost consciousness. A nearby fried-insect vendor, Pannaporn Ob-aun, told police that she had seen the tourist staggering and apparently trying to pick fights with people in the area before he walked towards a valet parking point, where a disturbance followed and he collapsed.

A parking attendant, Pornchai, said he had been watching customers’ vehicles when the tourist approached a parked car and began pulling at it, and he intervened because he believed the man might damage the vehicle, with the tourist punching him once in the face and he responding with a single punch. A motorcycle taxi driver then pushed the Indian tourist, who fell to the ground and lost consciousness, according to Pornchai.

Police have not yet set out a full account of how the confrontation unfolded and said CCTV footage would be examined as part of their ongoing investigation, with those involved in the confrontation detained for questioning. The case highlights the risks of excessive alcohol consumption and confrontational behaviour in Pattaya’s nightlife areas, where such incidents can quickly escalate and result in serious consequences. Authorities have reminded tourists to drink responsibly and avoid engaging in aggressive behaviour that could endanger themselves or others.
