PHUKET, Thailand – A male foreign tourist has been arrested in Cherng Talay, Phuket, after police checking a complaint about loud music at a hotel found he had overstayed his permitted stay in Thailand. The man was taken into custody and transferred to investigators for legal proceedings under Thai law, with police not disclosing his name, age or nationality.

Authorities were called after receiving a report that a group of tourists had been playing loud music in a hotel’s common area, disturbing other guests. Officers went to the hotel and asked the individuals to show their passports, but the tourists were unable to produce the original documents, instead showing digital images. Police checked the passport numbers against immigration records, and the check found that one member of the group had remained in Thailand after his permission to stay had expired.
