The Marquez brothers sealed a perfect weekend on Sunday at the Thailand Grand Prix, the first of the 2025 season. Marc and Alex crossed in first and second position, as in Saturday’s Sprint, the checkered flag of a race for history in which the two Spaniards completely swept the field in front of an incredulous Bagnaia.

Marc’s all-red bet has paid off immediately. The double victory this weekend puts him first in the World Championship standings, followed by his brother, Alex, who is able to prove that the Ducati satellite (Gresini Racing) has a lot to say in this World Championship.

The two brothers started from the front row of the grid after beating the clock also in Saturday’s qualifying round. The ’93’ didn’t give any options, he came out of the gate to start to put distance to his pursuers from the first place. It was more complicated for Alex, who made a mistake that cost him to go slightly off track and lose two positions.

It seemed that everything was ready for the first battle between Bagnaia and Marc, but the low pace shown by the Italian throughout the weekend once again took its toll. Alex, at a devilish pace, recovered the two lost positions and got closer to Marc.

At the back there was six of one and half a dozen of the other for the Spaniards. Pedro Acosta lost some positions early on and was the first to crash. He got up to continue and would finish the race at a very good pace, but from a position too far back to be able to go up with his KTM.

Raul Fernandez and Joan Mir fared better, solidly in the midfield until the passing of the laps burned them both out. Mir crashed his Honda when he was at his best in seventh place, while Raul Fernandez lost many positions before retiring.

In the meantime, the race that seemed to be all Marc’s way, with a second and a half ahead of his brother, soon took an unexpected turn. The leader was forced to slow down, presumably due to a front tire pressure failure, and Álex took a solid lead. After the strange problem, Marc recovered the pace and stuck very close to his younger brother’s Gresini.

As if he were a squire, Marc put pressure on Alex to get away from Bagnaia. And if the Italian was worried about the pressure exerted from behind by Morbidelli, this strange change of positions between the Spaniards gave him wings to force and try to get closer.

It was not to be, the man who lost the championship last year to Jorge Martin could not push much harder. His chance came at the very end, when Marc overtook a fatigued Alex with three laps to go and the eight-time world champion flew to victory, abandoning Alex to his fate. Despite the Gresini bike’s shuddering, it was too late for a Bagnaia who was happy with his third place.
