The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued heavy rain and flash flood warnings for Southern Thailand, effective from January 15–18, 2025. The warning comes as a result of an active northeast monsoon and a strong low-pressure system moving across the Gulf of Thailand.
Flooding Begins to Ease in Southern Thailand
The provinces most likely to experience heavy rainfall and potential flooding include: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang and Satun. Coastal areas and low-lying regions are at higher risk of flash floods and landslides.
Some areas are expected to receive rainfall exceeding 150mm per day, with localized thunderstorms. The heaviest downpours are predicted in Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat, where flooding risks are high.

Coastal regions will face strong winds, causing waves up to 3–4 meters in the Gulf of Thailand. Disaster response teams and local authorities are on high alert to assist affected residents.
Popular destinations such as Koh Samui, Koh Tao, and Koh Phangan in Surat Thani may see disruptions due to ferry and flight cancellations. Tourists are advised to stay updated on weather reports and avoid unnecessary travel during the warning period.
