Dozens Of Casualties In Car Bomb In Central Turkey

Turkish authorities say 13 soldiers were killed and dozens injured in a car bomb attack that targeted a bus carrying off-duty military personnel in the central city of Kayseri on December 17.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told reporters that a total of 55 people were being treated in hospital after the attack. He said 12 of the wounded were in intensive care and six were in critical condition.

Video footage showed that the bus had been reduced to a smoldering wreck by the blast.

The explosion in Kayseri comes one week after 44 people were killed in an attack in Istanbul claimed by Kurdish militants.

Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak said in televised comments that the blast in Kayseri was “unfortunately similar” to the Istanbul attack.

Turkey has seen a spate of deadly bombings in 2016 that have left dozens dead. The attacks were blamed both on Kurdish militants and the Islamic State extremist group.
