BANGKOK, 2 July 2013 (NNT) – The Meteorological Department has reported that a powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake which struck the Indonesian island of Sumatra this afternoon was also felt in the South of Thailand.
Residents in Phuket and Songkhla’s Hat Yai district reportedly sensed the tremor, which occurred 188 kilometers southeast of Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh province in the north of Sumatra Island.
The quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers. Since the incident happened on land, there was no risk of a tsunami.
