BANGKOK, 27 October 2011 (NNT) – The Office of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) told residents in Sai Mai district to evacuate before noon as the area has been completely flooded.
While no official closure to the area has been mandated, the flood water has pretty much covered the entire district. Sai Mai residents are told to move into the designated shelter from now.
BMA officials are keeping an eye on the surrounding areas of the district while Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra is confident that not all of the 50 districts in Bangkok will need to evacuate.
He also expected the water level in the Chao Phraya River to rise to 2.52 meters today; in which case it will spill over the barriers. The tide is anticipated to reach its height of 2.6 meters tomorrow.
