Bangkok, Thailand – On Saturday, July 6, 2024, a devastating fire broke out in the heart of Yaowarat, Bangkok’s renowned Chinatown. The blaze, which started in Trok Pho community around 8:40 PM local time, quickly spread through the densely packed area, causing widespread panic and significant property damage.

Firefighters and emergency services were on the scene immediately. Despite the narrowness of the site and the traffic congestion, which made the extinguishing work difficult, the teams worked tirelessly to contain the flames. The fire was brought under control by 23:00 hours, although several houses suffered serious damage.

Initial reports indicate that there were no casualties, but about 30 people required medical assistance, mostly for smoke inhalation. Many of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
For now, the focus remains on supporting the affected families, mostly migrant workers, restoring normalcy to Yaowarat and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Bangkok’s beloved Chinatown.
