Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra commenced her official visit to the People’s Republic of China, reaffirming 50 years of diplomatic and economic partnership between the two nations. China has been Thailand’s top trading partner for 12 consecutive years, with investments exceeding $100 billion.
Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra to Visit China to Deepen Bilateral Ties
Prime Minister Paetongtarn met with President Xi Jinping to underscore the deep-rooted diplomatic and economic relations between Thailand and China. President Xi reaffirmed that Thailand remains a key priority in China’s regional engagement strategy and expressed support for Thailand’s new administration in playing a more active role on the global and regional stages. Marking the golden jubilee of Thai-Chinese relations, both sides emphasized expanding concrete cooperation in economic development, trade, and regional security.
The Prime Minister also held discussions with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC), who emphasized that Thailand and China share a long-standing and forward-looking partnership.
Focusing on high-quality goods and services, China sees Thailand as an investment destination, particularly in technology-driven industries. The Chinese government pledged to encourage high-tech firms to expand their presence in Thailand and enhance cooperation in cross-border crime prevention and cybersecurity.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to China’s National People’s Congress for facilitating the arrival of the Sacred Buddha Tooth Relic in Thailand and for the preparations for the return of a goodwill giant panda. Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese tourists while strengthening people-to-people exchanges, particularly among youth, in education, cultural exchange, and the promotion of soft power.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square, accompanied by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister, senior military officials, and Zhang Jiandong, Vice Chairman of the NPC in Beijing.
