Several injured after an aircraft flips over during a rough landing in Toronto and lands upside down

A Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft carrying 76 passengers and four crew members of the U.S. airline Delta was involved in a spectacular accident on Monday while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada, where it was turned upside down. According to Canadian media, at least 19 people were injured and three of them are in critical condition.

One of these critically injured is a minor who has been transported by helicopter to Toronto Children’s Hospital. The other two are a man in his 60s and a woman in her 40s who also had to be transported to nearby hospitals by helicopter.

Toronto Pearson International Airport, the largest airport in Canada and one of the busiest in North America, has indicated on its social networks that “all passengers and crew are accounted for” and that they have been evacuated from the aircraft. They have also announced that emergency crews are working in the area and that all take-off and landing operations at the airport have been suspended.

Images broadcast on TV show the aircraft turned upside down in the middle of the runway, surrounded by snow. Likewise, images posted on social networks show passengers and staff walking around the plane upside down, with no wings and smoke coming out of the fuselage.

At the moment, the causes of the accident are unknown, however, since last Thursday, Toronto has recorded heavy snowfalls that have caused the cancellation of numerous flights and widespread delays at Pearson airport, although this Monday the weather conditions had improved.
