Three sentenced to death for murder of German citizen Hans-Peter Mack in Pattaya

In a significant legal development, the Pattaya Provincial Court has handed down death sentences to the primary suspects involved in the murder of Hans Peter Mack, a 62-year-old German businessman whose dismembered body was discovered in a freezer in Pattaya in July 2023.

Body of Missing German Businessman Found Dismembered in Freezer in Pattaya Rental Home

Hans Peter Mack, a well-known real estate broker in Pattaya, was reported missing in early July 2023. His dismembered remains were later found concealed in a freezer at a residence linked to the suspects. The gruesome nature of the crime shocked both the local and international communities.

Investigations revealed that Mack was lured into a trap by individuals he considered acquaintances. The suspects, identified as German nationals Olaf B. and Petra G. and Shahrukh Karim Uddin, a Pakistani with Thai nationality, allegedly restrained Mack and coerced him into transferring substantial sums of money before ending his life. The victim’s body was then dismembered and stored in a freezer in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The court found both Olaf B., Petra G. and Shahrukh Karim Uddin guilty of premeditated murder, kidnapping, extortion, and tampering with evidence. Given the severity and premeditated nature of their actions, both were sentenced to death. A third accomplice, Shahrukh Karim Uddin, maintained his innocence during the investigation, but the court still sentenced him to death.

This case has underscored the dangers faced by expatriates involved in business dealings abroad and has highlighted the Thai judicial system’s commitment to delivering justice in cases involving foreign nationals. The swift and decisive verdict aims to serve as a deterrent against such heinous crimes in the future.
