Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has taken an active role in addressing the ongoing flood crisis in southern Thailand, personally visiting flood-stricken communities in Surat Thani and spearheading relief efforts in Nakhon Si Thammarat. These areas have been severely affected by torrential rains and flash floods, which have displaced thousands and caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure.
Floods continue in 5 southern Thai provinces
PM Paetongtarn visited flood-affected neighborhoods in Surat Thani, where she met with victims to offer comfort and direct assistance.
She spoke with residents whose homes had been submerged, listening to their concerns and promising government support for recovery.
Relief packages, including food, drinking water, blankets, and medical supplies, were distributed to affected families, and encouraged the affected residents to join the 9,000 baht aid that she promised would arrive soon.
The Prime Minister also assured the community that the government is committed to implementing flood prevention measures, including improved drainage systems and reforestation programs to mitigate future risks.
In Nakhon Si Thammarat, one of the hardest-hit provinces, PM Paetongtarn chaired a meeting with local officials and disaster response teams to coordinate relief operations.

Repair efforts are underway to reopen roads and restore electricity in flood-affected areas. Special attention is being given to elderly residents, children, and those with health conditions to ensure their safety and well-being during the crisis.
The government has announced additional measures to address the immediate and long-term impacts of the floods with a relief fund that has been set up to financially assist affected households and small businesses.
The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment are working on large-scale water management projects, including the construction of flood barriers and reservoirs.
