Bangkok police have apprehended a 30-year-old Bangladeshi tourist for drug possession and overstaying his visa. The arrest followed a targeted operation that led officers to a hotel in Bang Na, where the suspect was residing.

Immigration officials in Bangkok acted on the request of the Bangladeshi man’s relatives, who were concerned after losing contact with him for more than six months.
The tourist entered Thailand on a visa that had expired in May 2024, overstaying for more than seven months. Immigration officials flagged his case during a review of long-term visa overstayers in the Bang Na area.
Upon arrest, officers conducted a search and found methamphetamine and related paraphernalia in his hotel room. The quantity of drugs suggested personal use, though investigations are ongoing to determine potential links to drug distribution networks.

Under Thai law, drug possession, even in small amounts, is treated severely. If convicted, the suspect faces imprisonment, heavy fines, or both.
Overstaying a visa in Thailand incurs penalties, including fines of up to 20,000 baht and deportation. The suspect is also likely to be blacklisted from re-entering Thailand for a prolonged period.
The arrest is part of a wider campaign by Bangkok police and immigration authorities to address drug-related crimes, increasing enforcement efforts in areas known for illicit drug activities and visa overstayers, with collaborations between law enforcement and immigration officials to identify and deport individuals residing in Thailand illegally.
