BANGKOK (NNT) – Mercedes-Benz has announced a new collaboration with Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant Co., Ltd., signing a 10-year contract to produce electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. The partnership is in line with the government’s ambition to transform Thailand into a regional hub for mobility, supporting the “Ignite Thailand” project to boost economic and technological development.
Suzuki to stop making cars in Thailand to focus on electric vehicles
As part of the initiative, Mercedes-Benz has donated a large lithium-ion battery cell unit to the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) for research purposes. The unit, composed of high-voltage battery cells previously used in the company’s processing experiments, is scheduled to be handed over to NSTDA by next month.
