Wat Pho Temple of the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok

Wat Pho is one of the oldest and the most fascinating temples in Bangkok, and one of the most visited attractions in the city. It is located on Rattanakosin Island, adjacent to the Grand Palace.

Wat Pho also known as Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn or temple of the reclining Buddha, is well known among locals and tourists for its 46 meters long and 15 meters tall golden reclining Buddha and for its splendid gardens and massage school, where you can get one of the best traditional Thai massages in Thailand. It is also home of a school of Thai medicine.

This large complex with an area of 50 rai or 80,000 square metres, hosts one thousand Buddha images and a cloister called Phra Prang, plus four large stupas, each 42 metres high called Phra Maha Chedi Si Rajakar. Also known as Phra Mondob, Wat Pho was rebuilt by King Rama I and later expanded and renovated by King Rama III. It is said that the temple was built during the reign of King Phetracha (1688–1703) in the the Ayuthaya period.

The entrance fee costs 100 baht and you can visit any time between 08:00am and 17:00pm.
