Lumphini Park, Bangkok

Lumphini Park is the oldest park in Bangkok, and with its 576,000 square meters (57.6 hectare or 142 acre), is considered one of the largest park in Bangkok and the lung of this huge city.

Lumpini Park is a public space with trees, ponds and playgrounds and contains an artificial lake where visitors can rent boats and do other activities such as cycling (permitted from 10am to 3pm) and practice jogging. The park is very popular among the Bangkokians, foreign tourists and expats as a place for rest, sport and recreation.

Within the park, there are some interesting places such as the Bangkok Elder Citizens Club, the Youth Club, the Bangkok Metropolitan School which offers training for a number of jobs, and the Lumphini Park Library.

The Lumpini Park was built in the 1920s by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). A beautiful statue of the King Rama VI stands at the southwestern entrance to the park.

As most public parks and areas in Thailand, there is a smoking ban throughout the park.
