A Italian neoclassical style Palace
The palace is a 49.5 m high two storey building with a impressive large dome and walls covered with paintings by Professor Galileo Chini and Carlo Riguli, which resembles the famous Sistine Chapel.
The Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall was commissioned by King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V) to the Italian architects Mario Tamagno and Annibale Rigotti in 1908. The sculptures were sculpted by Vittorio Novi using white marble from Carrara, Italy.
Initially, the Throne Hall was used as reception hall, but currently it is used as a museum with permanent exhibitions of “The Arts of Kingdom”, showcasing the country’s national artists and it’s also used in certain occasions for performing royal ceremonies and also ceremonial state functions.
The hall is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 18.00pm, except on Chulalongkorn Day on October 23, King Bhumibol Adulyadej birthday on December 5, and on August 12 during the Queen Sirikit birthday.
