YALA, 9 February 2014 (NNT) – Following a spate of attacks in downtown Yala that killed a dozen of both residents and officers, authorities have beefed up security in the area.
Army, police and local defense volunteers have been deployed to man roadblocks which have recently been set up on the roads leading to Yala’s downtown, in an attempt to prevent insurgents’ assault.
Cars and trucks as well as motorcycles are stopped and thoroughly searched for explosive devices or arms before being allowed to enter the inner city, which is the business center.
