BANGKOK, 9 April 2013 (NNT) – The cabinet on Tuesday has approved plans to acquire a fleet of over 3,000 NGV buses for the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA).
The Transport Ministry earlier submitted a 13 billion baht budget request to procure the NGV-run buses. The proposal, which had been submitted to the cabinet several times over the past year, had earlier been rejected due to lack of necessary information.
The ministry voiced its belief that the plan will help save operating costs of up to 260 billion baht per year. The BMTA’s current debt stands at 76 billion THB and the agency has reportedly been operating at a loss for over 20 years.
