BANGKOK, 16 January 2013 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport of Thailand is expediting the high speed train project so that the bidding for train purchase can be held in March this year.
Transport Minister Chatchart Sitthiphan said on Wednesday that the construction of the northern line high speed train of 680 kilometers would not be separated into two phases as previously planned but would be carried out all at once from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in a bid to provide train passengers with more convenience.
The northern line’s bidding is expected to take place at the same time as that of the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima northeastern line, the Bangkok-Hua Hin southern line and the Bangkok-Pattaya eastern line. The high speed train project is estimated to be worth around 900 billion baht in total.
