Thai and Cambodian troops remain on the disputed border

BANGKOK, 5 April 2012 (NNT) – Thai Defence Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat said after attending an 8-hour long meeting of the Thai-Cambodian joint working Group (JWG) that both countries will not withdraw their troops from the disputed border until further notice.

Talking about a preliminary result of the meeting, the Defence Minister said both countries will remain their troops on the 4.6 square-kilometer overlapping territory. Besides, no requests will be made for Indonesian observers for the moment.

In addition, Thailand and Cambodia will begin a joint effort to clear land mines along the border. He also said both nations decided during the JWG meeting that they would coin new words that would describe how the two countries work together.

ACM Sukumpol assured that Thailand would not be at a disadvantage in the territorial dispute with Cambodia.
