BANGKOK, 9 April 2012 (NNT) – The Department of Public Works under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is planning to procure consultants to carry out inspections on Rama VIII Bridge for the first time after 10 years of use.
To conduct a full-scale inspection on Rama VIII Bridge, the Department of Public Works is seeking consulting companies to submit bids for the supervision of the inspection work. The firm is expected to provide engineering evaluations and repair recommendations for the iconic bridge, which has never undergone any structural inspection since its inception in 2002.
The budget for the consulting bid is estimated at 35 million baht. The department is expected to hold a bid opening ceremony by next month.
Rama VIII Bridge is the only bridge crossing the Chao Phraya River that was constructed by the BMA. The asymmetric cable-stayed bridge consists of a single pylon, from which the suspension cables extend, and stretches 475 meters in length.
