BANGKOK, 20 February 2012 (NNT) – Thailand and Malaysia have agreed to urgently develop the economy of the Thai-Malaysian border region for better quality of life of the people of the two nations.
Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday jointly held a press conference with her Malaysian counterpart after a plenary session between the two parties. Ms Yingluck thanked Malaysia for a warm and prestigious welcome during her official visit and expressed readiness to cooperate with Malaysia at the bilateral level and within the ASEAN framework for concrete collaborative work.
Thai PM said Thailand was ready to host the 12th Meeting of the Thailand-Malaysia Joint Commission to strengthen ties, the 3rd Thai-Malaysian ministerial meeting for joint development strategy and an annual meeting in Malaysia to conclude pending cooperation agreements.
The agreements include a border crossing agreement, which Thailand wants to be updated to reflect the current border situation, and an agreement framework on land transport of goods and passengers between Thailand and Malaysia.
