BANGKOK, 9 February 2012 (NNT) – According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Bangkok Transit System (BTS) skytrain extension between Wongwian Yai and Petchkasem will be completed by 12 August next year.
Deputy Bangkok Governor Teerachon Manomaipiboon revealed that the construction process of the 5.3-kilometer Silom line extension between Wongwian Yai and Petchkasem will be in operation at some stations on 5 December this year and will be in full operation on Mother’s Day next year.
Mr Teerachon said that the construction was halted during the flood disaster in 2011; therefore, the workers have to pick up their pace to catch up with the schedule.
This extension will link the BTS Skytrain system to the heart of Bangkok’s western side of Thonburi. It will consist of four stations, namely Pho Nimit, Talad Phlu, Wutthakat and Bang Wa, which is the terminal station located on Petchkasem Road. Mr Teerachon expects 120,000 passengers to be using the line each day by 2016.
The extension to Petchkasem Road is considered the newest addition to the Silom line after it was previously stretched across the Chao Phraya River for 2.2 kilometers from Taksin Station to Wongwian Yai in Thonburi in May 2009.
