Yellow Shirts to end its rally in Bangkok tomorrow

BANGKOK, 30 June 2011 (NNT) – The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has issued a declaration terminating its prolonged street-protest at Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge and Chamai Maruchet Bridge nearby Government House on Friday night (1 July).

PAD Spokesperson Panthep Puapongpan declared that PAD demonstrators will disperse as their demand has been met after Thailand withdrew itself from the World Heritage Convention on 26 June 2011.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suwit Khunkitti decided to withdraw Thailand from the World Heritage Committee membership, reasoning that the panel refused to defer the Cambodia’s unilateral management plan for Preah Vihear Temple and its environs.

The Yellow Shirts will announce its declaration at 20.00 hrs on Friday ending the prolonged demonstration of 158 days at the midnight of 1 July 2011. Meanwhile, the demonstration of the Santi Asok and Thai Patriots Network is also ending today after which demonstrators will move to join the PAD gathering.
