‘Voice of Thaksin’ editor detained, bail denied

BANGKOK, 2 May 2011 (NNT) – The Court has approved the detention of red-shirt activist and editor of ‘Voice of Thaksin’ magazine Somyos Phrueksakasemsuk over lèse majesté while bail is not allowed due to the severity of the charge and possible escape.

Mr Somyos, member of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) and editor of ‘Voice of Thaksin’, was apprehended by police on Saturday at the border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province. Officials of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) then brought him to the Criminal Court this morning to seek a 12-day detention for his lèse majesté act in combination with his failure to report to authorities after receiving three summonses.
