Villager killed, five soldiers wounded, in southern Thailand insurgent attacks

YALA, April 27 – One villager was shot dead in insurgency-impacted Yala province Wednesday morning, while five Army personnel were wounded in a bombing ambush in nearby Narathiwat.

The first incident occurred early morning in a rubber plantation in Yala’s Bannang Sata district where the victim identified as Sombat Pandam, 32, was shot dead as he was driving a pickup truck heading to collect forest produce. A burned motorcycle and a dead dog were also found near his body, but his vehicle had disappeared.
