BANGKOK, 21 April 2011 (NT)-The Ministry of Public Health has revealed that children as young as 13 years old have been diagnosed with sexually transmitted disease (STD) with the society to blame for the STD among Thai adolescents.
The Bureau of Epidemiology’s Director, Dr. Manit Theeratantikanon expressed his concerns over the lack of strict regulations on entertainment venues in several provinces. Kids were able to enter these places without supervision which often led them to experiment things such as drugs and sex.
In the past 5 years, the number of kids with STD has increased 3 times. Each province has now an average number of children with STD at 4,000 from previously recorded at only 1,000 people. Common diseases found are herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV.
