Thai carriers just don’t get the iPad

After recently getting an iPad to call my own, I sought out to find a carrier to funnel data over 3G. One limiting factor is that my area only has access to 3G on True Move’s network and the strongest signal in most of the places I frequent is also from True Move. So it was almost a no-brainer that I’d go with them. However upon seeing their iPad package, I was just a bit confused at their offer and once again felt like a modern day Goldilocks who just can’t seem to find something just right.

First, the other carriers. They offer a decent price plan but none of them offer unlimited data over 3G. Their rates were also slightly higher than an equal or near package from True Move.

True Move does offer competitive pricing and an unlimited* plan (aka a 5GB limit followed by sever throttling) with access to their 3G network. This includes a 549 baht plan that gives access to 1GB of data over their network and a 759 baht plan with unlimited access. The strange thing is that they have kindly included for free 500 SMS and 300 MMS on their more expensive plan which is useless on an iPad considering it is not SMS or MMS enabled.
