The Bangkok police chief is confident that crime can be cut by 20 per cent in the capital city, in line with the government’s target, with the ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs leading the way.
A large amount of the various types of illegal drugs seized during recent raids was displayed at a press conference at the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) on Tuesday.
MPB chief Pol Lt Gen Jakthip Chaijinda said divisions 1 to 9 have conducted raids and searches at 165 locations across Bangkok and charged almost 850 people.
The government has vowed to reduce crime in Bangkok by 20 pr cent in six month as one of the nine measures under the Pracha Wiwat welfare scheme. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva instructed police to seriously and continuously crack down on drug abuse, which is being linked to many other crimes.
