As Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva headed for Lop Buri yesterday morning to supervise flood relief operations after a prior visit to Nakhon Ratchasima province, fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra posted pre-dawn Twitter messages boasting about the provisions he had made.
Abhisit was scheduled to visit Ban Mi and Muang districts in Lop Buri where heavy rains and an overflowing reservoir have triggered the worst floods in recent memory.
Just hours before Abhisit’s trip, Thaksin posted Twitter messages voicing concerns about flash floods in 21 provinces, including the most-affected areas like Nakhon Ratchasima, Lop Buri, Buri Ram, Tak and Surin. He also called on all sides to stop politicking and focus more on assisting flood victims.
He said he had instructed the Thaicom foundation, founded by him, to donate Bt5 million via Thai Red Cross, adding that he and his family members had provided additional funds to cover essential supplies for victims.
