Thailand: 2 killed, 4 injured in Nonthaburi explosion

2 killed, 4 injured in explosion near Bangkok

An explosion at a housing estate in Nonthaburi killed two people and injured four others Tuesday evening, rescuers said.

The Ruam Katanyu Foundation reported over its radio network that the explosion occurred at the Thippawan housing estate near Bang Bua Thong Market.

The blast caused a five-story building to collapse.

The BBC reported that the explosion was one of the largest in recent times.

“It was definitely a bomb. We cannot say what type of bomb it is yet,” Major General Prawut Tawornsiri told the AFP news agency.

“But it was a massive bomb because it damaged a large area.”

Early reports suggested that the blast was large enough to have been caused by as much as 50kg of explosives.
