BANGKOK, Oct 11 – Gen Udomdej Sitabutr, commander of Thailand’s First Army Region, said Monday he is concerned about the next rally planned by the ‘Red Shirt’ United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Thursday, saying the army has been closely monitoring situation after intelligence reports indicate that an armed group plans to create a disturbance in the capital.
In response to an earlier statement of Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Tharit Pengdit about an armed force plotting to create a disturbance in Bangkok, Gen Udomdej said he also received the report and that national police chief Gen Wichean Potphosree will assign the main duty to the special branch of the Royal Thai Police. He said the army will monitor the situation and are on stand-by to support the police and to cooperate in intelligence work.
